Hubert drum screen
Efficient and fish-friendly water intake for large flows.
The Hubert drum screen is a vertical rotating screen that provides fine and reliable filtration in water intake systems, particularly at power plants and desalination plants. With a capacity of up to 120,000 m³/h per screen, this system offers a robust solution for protecting downstream processes from dirt particles and coarse material.
Thanks to its unique design, the screen has an extremely rigid structure, which prevents deformation and ensures a perfect fit within the inlet channels. This allows filtration up to 2 mm, even under harsh conditions and tidal variations.
Features
The drum is designed for fine, continuous filtration of large water flows. The screen is typically placed in a concrete channel or inlet pit, directly behind a coarse front screen. Water flows radially through the rotating drum screen, leaving dirt particles on the stainless steel mesh with a mesh size from 2 mm.
The drum slowly rotates on its horizontal axis and cyclically passes the dirty filter panels under a set of high-pressure nozzles. These spray the attached contaminants off the mesh, after which the dirt is discharged via an integrated collection system, without the need for a separate pump.
The robust construction ensures high structural rigidity and minimal deformation, even at large diameters (up to 20 metres). This keeps the screen media tightly stretched and ensures consistent filtration.
For applications where ecology plays a role, the screen can be equipped with a fish-friendly recovery system. This guides fish that enter with the water flow in a controlled manner to a safe discharge chute.
