New secondary settling tank for the wastewater treatment plant

Hubert was commissioned to supply a sludge scraper for the new secondary settling tank at the Burdaard wastewater treatment plant (Wetterskip Fryslân). This tank processes over 2 million litres of wastewater every day. The settled sludge is then further processed via the sludge thickener and ultimately transported to the Water Board’s central sludge dewatering plant in Heerenveen. The treated effluent is discharged into the Dokkumer Ie.

Hubert aerators and thickeners were already in operation at the Burdaard site.

What we delivered

Hubert supplied a complete sludge scraper for the expansion of the wastewater treatment plant in Burdaard. This consists of an aluminium walkway approximately 30 metres long, which spans two-thirds of the 44-metre-wide secondary sedimentation tank. Beneath this walkway is a stainless-steel scraper assembly, which ensures the even and efficient removal of the settled sludge.

In addition to the electromechanical work, Hubert also provided the safety features, including a maintenance platform, a swimming ladder and obstacle protection. The project was therefore completed in full compliance with the requirements set by Wetterskip Fryslân.
