There, the system was completely overhauled. The drum, with an impressive size of about 10 metres in diameter and 4 metres wide, was completely dismantled, inspected and rebuilt. This included fitting new filter elements, made of coated carbon steel combined with AISI 316 stainless steel. After the refurbishment, the drum screen was returned to the plant, accurately aligned and made operational again for long-term use. The plant is designed for a service life of at least 20 years and meets the refinery's high requirements. In addition to the drum filter, Hubert also renovated several belt filters in this project, restoring future-proof operation of the overall cooling water intake system. This consists of an aluminium walkway of about 30 metres, spanning two-thirds of the 44-metre-wide post-sedimentation tank. Under this bridge is a stainless steel scraper construction, which ensures even and efficient disposal of the settled sludge. The installation consists of six cable-operated Damran-type grate cleaners, specifically designed to efficiently remove coarse debris from seawater. In addition, an integrated dirt removal system was realised, including a conveyor belt, a monorail and a gripper, which is used to dispose of the collected material. This installation is designed to completely remove seaweed, jellyfish, plastic, wood, mussels and other coarse debris from the seawater. At the heart of the system are four impressive Hubert drum filters, which ensure efficient and continuous filtration of the incoming seawater. Screens have been installed upstream of the drum filters to trap coarser debris. These screens are automatically cleaned by a screen cleaner mounted on a monorail structure, ensuring the system requires little maintenance and remains operational at all times. To facilitate inspection and maintenance, sheet piling was supplied to enable the inlet channels and pump chambers to be sealed off quickly and safely. In addition, Hubert supplied the spray water system for cleaning the filters and a cathodic protection system to protect underwater components against corrosion.
