Renovation of a drum filter
Hubert carried out a major refurbishment project on a water intake system for one of the largest refineries in Europe. This water intake is a crucial part of the refinery’s cooling water process, as it filters out unwanted particles from the intake water. The project involved the dismantling, complete overhaul and reinstallation of the drum filter. All this was carried out under specific conditions, but the filter was successfully reinstalled in the water intake system.

What we delivered
For this project, Hubert removed the existing drum filter from the civil engineering structure and transported it in its entirety to the workshop in Stavoren. There, the system was completely overhauled. The drum, with impressive dimensions of approximately 10 metres in diameter and 4 metres in width, was completely dismantled, inspected and reassembled. Among other things, new filter elements were fitted, made from coated carbon steel in combination with AISI 316 stainless steel.
Following the refurbishment, the drum screen was reinstalled in the plant, precisely aligned and made operational again for long-term use. The system is designed for a service life of at least 20 years and meets the refinery’s high standards. In addition to the drum filter, Hubert also refurbished several belt filters as part of this project, ensuring that the entire cooling water intake system is once again fit for the future.
